Your gift will go a long way in helping me meet my goal of $1,930 for Hawaiʻi Peopleʻs Fund. I have been on the Grantmaking Committee for three years and I've been learning so much! HPF models the possibility of community-based philanthropy supporting grassroots organizations who continue to live, breathe, and do JUSTICE. Check out 2021 HPG Grantees from all across the islands doing work in art & media, community health & wellbeing, environmental justice, language reclamation, and indigenous self-determination.
What I love about HPF is that itʻs a space for dreaming & action rooted in our past, open to truths of our present, and brave to build a future we deserve.
My maternal grandmother, Aquilina "Helen" Manuel Ancheta, is a grounding force that represents the past I look to, the present she hoped for, and the future she dreamed of. Growing up, I've watched her wield a bolo machete to husk coconuts, hand-sew outfits & blankets, grow organic gardens, and cook delicious meals. I chose $1,930 because 1930 is her birth year. I was blessed to be raised by this strong and beautiful Ilokano woman and hope to honor her life every day.
