JOIN ME in supporting real change from the roots UP!

The past few years has made it clear to me that even (and maybe especially) here in Hawaiʻi, people are getting screwed; it's harder and harder for residents to afford basic necessities like housing, healthcare and education, all the while getting exploited for their low cost labor. These issues are hitting our Hawaiian, immigrant and low-income communities the hardest (read: black and brown people...anyone out there surprised? Probably not). It's way past time we make a change. The great thing is, there are already many, many fantastic organizations getting their hands in the soil and working to help life become a little more equitable, sustainable, and just here in Hawaiʻi nei.

I spent a lot of my time during my covid furlough looking for organizations I could get involved with and in my search I came across the Hawaiʻi People's Fund. The fund has been around since 1972 and since its inception, has worked to amplify social justice initiatives around the state. Their motto is CHANGE, NOT CHARITY and they are reimagining philanthropy in order to move resources to these initiatives.

HPF moves money to grassroots organizations challenging systems of oppression. Some of their past grantees can be found here (check them out, they're all amazing!)

Our Giving Project 2022 cohort is committed to raising $100,000 to shift to these organizations, and my personal goal is to reach $7,000. Any amount, no matter how small, goes a long way towards helping us reach our goal. When we come together as a collective, we can take huge steps towards creating change in our world.

Mahalo nui for taking this journey with me.

Me ke aloha pumehana, Rebecca
