Why I believe this is the most impact I can make as a settler here in Hawaiʻi. I am raising money for 25 organizations that are doing community led social justice work in Hawai'i. Read about the groups I'm fundraising for here!
At the onset of the pandemic, I was looking for new ways to engage with my community and found a mutual aid organization that was doing direct to community support to new and expectant mothers around O'ahu. By delivering food and toiletries to these mothers, I saw first hand that many in my community were living with little and the need for support was so great.
That experience and the events of early summer 2020, inspired me to co-found the Hawai'i chapter of the national organization - Showing Up for Racial Justice or SURJ. We focus on exploring issues of whiteness, colonialism and patriarchy with the goal of being better allies/co-conspirators with indigenous-led groups.
For this fundraising project I am collaborating with a cohort of 20 other like-minded folks who are learning to bring money to these amazing community based organization.
Even a small gift will go a looooong way in helping our Giving Project 2022 cohort meet our goal!
