💙 Thank you for helping me move money to movements in Hawai'i 💙
Aloha friends! As someone who moved to Hawai'i, I know I have a responsibility to deepen my understanding of the unique history of this place and contribute something meaningful to advance justice and equity here.
I discovered Hawai'i People's Fund, an organization supporting grassroots community groups working for justice at the intersections of indigeneity, environment, race, class, labor, gender, art, technology, mental health, incarceration, food, and other crucial issues we face. I'm honored to participate in HPF's 2023 annual Giving Project – a cross-class, cross-race, gender-diverse, intergenerational community of curious and committed people that share a vision for a more just and equitable Hawai'i.
As a group, together we work to:
- Deepen our understanding of Hawaiʻi’s unique history
- Examine our personal history and privilege
- Engage in collective liberation learning and practices
- Invest our time, talent, and resources to uplift, advocate and raise funds for Hawai'i Peoples Fund community partners combatting systems of oppression every day
Joining The Giving Project has given me the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the struggles for justice in Hawai'i and share this journey with my ʻohana and friends. (That's you!)
With my birthday coming up this month, I'm asking for your support to reach my goal of raising $3,000 to support grassroots changemakers in Hawai'i. 🎁
In The Giving Project, we ground ourselves in the phrase, "CHANGE, NOT CHARITY." I encourage you to see any gift you can make as a tool for sustained, meaningful change for a place that has given so much to so many. 🌱
My personal call to my family and friends:
The culture, practices, wisdom, aina and aloha of Hawai'i have brought so much richness to my life. Anyone who has ever lived here, visited, or even dreamt of Hawai'i understands how special this place is. And, ongoing systemic oppression threatens all of that for the people who live here – particularly native communities. We need to all be part of the solution to care for Hawai'i. It's our turn to support the grassroots movements across the islands that are already building a more connected, more just, more enduring, and healthy Hawai'i.
Any amount you can give to get us to my $3,000 goal is tremendously appreciated!

A little about The Giving Project: We work together virtually and in-person to learn about and connect with grassroots organizations here at home, deepen their understanding of Hawaiʻi’s unique history and contemporary social justice principles, and engage in collective liberation learning and practices to amplify and illuminate social change efforts and radically transform the way we move money to movements for real change from the roots up.
