Aloha,

My name is Nikki Cristobal and I'm born and raised on the island of Kauaʻi. I understand first hand the power that goes into personally confronting trauma such as violence and houselessness. My love for my homelands and for my culture and community is what kept me going through my darkest times. This love is what lit my path to be persistent in my educational pursuits. I hold my Ph.D. in educational administration and policy, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology, and a B.A. in Sociology and Women's Studies. I have always known that I was getting these degrees with the focus on coming home to give back to my island home. It is with great humility that I can say that I am doing just that. I serve as the Principal Investigator for the Missing & Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls (MMNHWG) Report as mandated through the Hawai'i legislature. I am also the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the grassroots arts, culture, and community education nonprofit, Kamāwaelualani.

In our first Missing & Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls Report (read online at tinyurl.com/mmnhwg) we found that there are over 2,000 children go missing in Hawai'i every year. Native Hawaiian children are overrepresented in missing childrens cases, representing 1/4 of missing children. 1/4 of 2,000 children is 500. I am choosing to donate $500 for the Native Hawaiian children who go missing every year. I challenge YOU to match my donation or contribute whatever it is you can to help us get to $2,000 donated to honor 2,000 missing children a year.

Why donate through the giving project? Because this is a #kakouthing The funds raised through Giving Project goes to amplify the work of grassroots nonprofits across Hawaiʻi doing the work of social change. Funds donated thrugh the Giving Project goes directly to organizations that do the work every single day of preventing children from going missing in the first place. Please be part of our team. Donate and contribute to a more pono future for our keiki.
