Help Support Community!
I come to the Giving Project with a love and respect for the work that is being done by so many in their communities. Hawai‘i is a special place where I have learned so much from people about how to have relationship with others and with land. These ideas and actions are modeled so well by the organizations supported through the Giving Project.
I invite you to join in supporting community groups working for social change in Hawai‘i.
The work you would be supporting comes in many forms:
- Organizing workers who are constantly being taken advantage of by systemic injustices.
- Ensuring Kānaka stay and thrive on their land.
- Creating space for children to learn their traditional arts.
- Caring for land in a multiplicity of ways.
Creating social change for people and places to thrive!
These groups center people and places in Hawai‘i that have been or are being harmed by the current system of tourism, militarism, and rampant development. By creating and harnessing community power, the work of these organizations is actively healing and restoring our world in more profound ways than I can describe.
I want to live in a world where people have strong community and where people help one another. A world that is in good relationship with the land, the mountain and streams, the fish and the sea, that allows people to exist and thrive on the abundance available to us. I want to support and engage in the work that brings about this kind of world.
While each group employs a diversity of different tactics, one theme runs strong throughout. It is through relationship building and collective action that any of this is possible. We have to be in relationship with one another to start to talk about and then change the things we all collectively want to see changed. I know you share some of these ideas with me and with these organizations that are doing the work.
So come on, join in on supporting the work. Nothing you want to see change will happen unless you do something about it. But don't worry, you are not alone. We'll figure it out together.
