Hello and mahalo for taking some time to visit my 2023 Hawai'i Giving Project fund shifting page! Your generosity invests in community-led Hawai'i organizations. No donation is too small. Thank you for actively supporting change in our community.

What is Hawai'i People's Fund?

Since 1972, Hawai‘i People’s Fund (HPF) has helped to support, build capacity, and amplify the impact of grassroots social change movements in Hawaiʻi. HPF supports passionate, grassroots community groups working for social justice in Hawai‘i, believes in community-centered, community-driven solutions and promotes a "change, not charity" model of giving.

What is the (Hawai'i) Giving Project?

The Hawai'i Giving Project brings together diverse individuals from across Hawai'i and the continental United States to learn about place-based philanthropy, social justice, and community-based organizations in Hawai'i. Alongside 18 other curious and committed folx, I have chosen to participate in Hawaiʻi People's Fund's 2023 Giving Project because I also believe in collaboration between diverse groups to bring together shared values, passions, and abilities that center around intergenerational progress and socio-cultural well-being.

By running this Giving project, we can radically transform how we understand, interact with, and move money to these movements. It is meant to allow easy access to individuals who want to support meaningful work genuinely serving our community's people, stories, and places.

How can I support? (Thank you for asking!)

Through the Giving Project, we challenge the mainstream idea that philanthropy is only for people who can make significant gifts. Not true! Every contribution, regardless of size, invests in a community-led organization focused on social change in Hawaiʻi. Any donation is meaningful and impactful!

As a collective, the 2023 Hawaiʻi Giving Project cohort has set a goal to call in community resources to raise $100,000 by May 4th to support our HPF grantees! Raising $100,000 alone can be daunting, but the impossible becomes more possible as we come together to support one another.

Who do the resources collected by the Hawai'i Giving Project support?

The 2023 Hawaiʻi Giving Project (GP23) grantees are a multi-faceted group of organizations focusing on various issue areas in Hawaiʻi, including environmental justice, education, language/cultural reclamation, economic justice, health and wellness, and more. Click here to learn more about the current and past grantees and to see if there is an organization doing work near you! Here are some interesting tidbits about this year's grantees:

  • 77% of the GP23 grantees are Kanaka Maoli-lead organizations
  • More than half of the grantee organizations are lead by wāhine (women)!
  • 16 of the grantees have received or will be receiving their first ever grant from Hawaiʻi People's Fund
  • Grantees can be seen doing amazing work on 5 out of the 8 major Hawaiian islands

Can't donate right now? We can still use your help!

If you are not in a position to donate money at this time, no worries, beef curries! Instead, please consider sharing this page with your friends and family. To learn more about HPF and to stay connected sign up for HPF's emails, follow them on Facebook or Instagram, visit their website, and tune in to their podcast, Hawaii Rising!

If you would like to learn more about the grantees, how to get involved in the giving project, or anything else, please feel free to reach out. I would be more than happy to speak with you about this important work. MAHALO, again and again, for checking out my fund shifting page! I appreciate you dedicating time to learn about the Hawaiʻi Giving Project and the incredible social change warriors we are hoping to support!
