Aloha friends and family! As someone who was born and raised in Hawai'i and calls O'ahu home, I know I have a responsibility to deepen my understanding of the unique history of this place and contribute something meaningful to advance justice and equity here.

I learned about Hawai'i People's Fund through my work in the nonprofit-philanthropic sector. For the past 50 years, the Hawai'i People's Fund has supported grassroots / small nonprofits across all Hawaiian islands working for justice at the intersections of education, food, health, environment, art, technology, mental health, incarceration, and other crucial issues. Last year, Hawai'i People's Fund awarded a total of $285,000 to 33 grantees. My personal call to my family and friends:

The culture, practices, wisdom, 'āina and aloha of Hawai'i have raised and nurtured me. Anyone who has ever lived here or visited Hawai'i understands how special this place is. And, we need to all be part of the solution to care for Hawai'i - it is a bellwether for how we treat our world. It's our turn to support the grassroots movements across the islands that are already building a more connected, more just, more enduring, and healthy Hawai'i --- rippling out as an example around the world.

This month marks my 2nd anniversary of coming home to O'ahu (after being away for 25 years). To celebrate the power of community in action, the resurgence of 'ōlelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian language), and the remembering of indigenous technologies over the past couple of decades, I invite you to support and contribute to my goal of raising $10,000+ to support grassroots changemakers in Hawai'i through the Hawai'i People's Fund.

The Hawai'i People's Fund grounds its work in the phrase, "CHANGE, NOT CHARITY." Taking this to heart, I encourage you to match my own personal makana (gift) of $1,700 OR any amount you can as a tool for sustained, meaningful change for a place that has given so much to so many. 🌱

I also offer this to anyone who has ever been a guest of the islands, as an opportunity to offer reciprocity to this place and its people.

Contributing some of your own waiwai (wealth) is a way to participate in the movement. If systemic change can be achieved here in Hawai'i, it can be done anywhere.

Each donation of $300 and above will get a Hawai'i People's Fund tee-shirt!

And, of course, I'd be thrilled to speak with you 1-1 in more depth about this work. If you're on island, let's go for a walk, hike...happy to have you over for sunset pau hana anytime!

My campaign ends May 4th so let's do this! 🌺💛
